My Penny of View : Hiccup stayed in a village where fighting dragons was the way of life. His father was the head of the village to fight the dragons but unlike other strong vikings, Hiccup not allowed to fight the dragons and stay indoor. He wanted to prove to others that he also able to fight dragons, he decided to catch rare and dangerous Night Fury. He managed to shoot one down in the middle of dragons attack but no on believed him. He followed the clues to find out whether his instinct was true or not. His instinct was right and he should kill the dragon like others but he didn't and he released the Night Fury. After that, Hiccup enrolled in a dragon training class to learn how to fight and kill dragons. He still missing the Night Fury and he tracked it down. He found out that it trapped within a small canyon and unable to fly out. He saw it had difficulties getting food, therefore he brought him raw fish. Slowly Hiccup gained the Night Fury trust and he named it "Toothless". He discovered that Toothless' tail wing has been ripped off which was the reason for grounding him. He made an artificial tail for Toothless and a saddle for himself to fly together. The more he got closer with Toothless, the more he found dragons are tame and easy to tackle. This made him became the excellent student in the dragon training class.

Hiccup's father as the leader of dragons' fighters and they were trying to find out the nest of dragons and want to destroy them. One day, Toothless brought Hiccup to the nest and he saw the giant and threatening dragon. The dragons stole the food to feed this giant dragon and if it don't have enough food, it will eat the smaller dragons. Hiccup was in dilemma because on one side he needed to inform the village about the dragon's nest and on another side he wanted to protect Toothless. What Hiccup going to deal about it? Will Toothless going to be safe too?

3D animation seems like a trend nowadays, probably this is one of the tactic to expand the target audience of animation. So animation not only for kids but the cinema was full with adults. Therefore, besides the incredible 3D effects, the story line must be meaningful enough and easy to understand plus adorable characters to attract the children. Upcoming looking forward 3D animation for the year, we have Shrek Forever After and Toy Story 3. Back to movie, the story was based on the 2003 book with the exactly same title. It included usual father and son misunderstanding, how a zero transformed into hero, friendship between man and animal, and a clever comedy with witty dialogue. When Hiccup's father wanted to congrats Hiccup for his special talent towards dragon, he gave him a helmet made from Hiccup's mother's breastplate, just the one he was wearing. But I wonder, how come both of them not same shape? Another funny scene was when Hiccup wanted to get closer with Toothless, he fed it raw fish but Toothless wanted to share the half raw fish with Hiccup. Hiccup had to eat the raw fish as the friendly return. Although it was not much of character or story development but thrilling action-adventure saga with exhilarating 3D animation especially the battles between tamed dragons and evil ones makes the movie so exciting. Fights are awesome with comedic voice talent.

Other than well crafting 3D animation, the movie brought to us great morale value: anti-war perspective, love animals(although it is flying dragon) and believe in yourself when everyone think your view is wrong. I was having so much fun along the Hiccup's adventure. Toothless really looks like Stitch. Maybe due to Chris Sander was the co-director of Lilo & Stitch.
