Opening Address

The first speaker was Manish Tripathi, Chairman and Patron of Dabbawala Foundation. A dabbawala (one who carries the box), sometimes spelled dabbawalla , tiffinwalla , tiffinwalla or dabbawallah, is a person in the Indian city of Mumbai whose job is to carry and deliver freshly made food from home in lunch boxes to office workers. This looks easy and traditional job needs effort from all parties. They are using their unique coding system and that's why error free delivery. They even awarded Six Sigma Certificate.

The second speaker was Azran Osman-Rani,CEO of Air Asia X. As we know, Air Asia make our dream come true with their slogan-Everyone can Fly. AirAsia X operates as a franchise of the brand AirAsia, which is Asia's largest low-cost carrier. It is able to keep costs down by using a common ticketing system, aircraft livery, employee uniforms, and management style. Now, everyone is planning the holiday after they have booked the flight ticket.

Q&A session

After listened to two different innovator's talks, I have a conclusion of the talk. We must always dream to make the impossible to become possible. Both of the successful stories took place in different setting, so the degree of successful vary from each other. Some people will think Dabbawala system will be eliminated very soon but I think the business still have room to grow. It's a simple concept to carry out the supply chain management but it did provide a lot of job opportunity to the citizen of Mumbai. For them, traditional without any changes is good to maintain the business. On the other hand, modern innovator like Air Asia keep changing according to the needs of customers. They have to come out the approaches before others. For them, change is for goodness. So, are an innovator?
